The GLOCK® 47 Gen5 MOS Semi-Auto Pistol gives you a compact recoil system and 45 frame length. This allows for cross compatibility with the Gen 5 19 and 45, giving you slide and frame swap capabilities to create the right hybrid setup for you. For several years now, many have been getting their slides milled out by gunsmiths to cleanly attach a sight to their pistol. The MOS (Modular Optic System) features a cut-out slide and 4 plates to accommodate just about any popular RDS (Red Dot Sight).
Some still prefer a custom cut, while many prefer the ease of use with the MOS system. The G47 MOS comes with the same popular upgrades of all Generation 5 pistols like the Glock Marksman Barrel and overall elimination of leaf springs, which have since been replaced by new coil spring designs for increased longevity and reliability. The slide has factory serrations on the front and back. Plus, the front of the firearm is now beveled for easier reholstering. The slide and barrel feature GLOCK’s latest ion-bonded nDLC coating, which is a truer black to previous generations with improved ability to function in dry conditions.
A long-requested feature, the front strap no longer has finger grooves, allowing any finger size to fit comfortably around the grip. GLOCK’s MBS (Modular Backstrap System) allows you the ability to add or remove additional backstop pieces, including a beaver tail for those with larger hands. This eliminates slide bite. In front of the trigger guard you’ll also receive an integral accessory rail for a wide variety of light and laser accessories.

The G47 MOS with its no-compromise design, combines all the features demanded of the modern handgun of today – and of tomorrow! This standard size pistol combines a GLOCK 17 Gen5 MOS slide with a G45 frame.
The slide has the proven, superior GLOCK nDLC finish. The frame with a flared magazine well completely encircles the front of the grip. Fast reloads in critical situations can be performed with speed and efficiency. Additionally, there are forward serrations precision-milled near the front, forward of the ejection port on both sides.
The Glock 47
Glock Gen 5 pistols are available in several sizes including the legacy Glock 17 full-sized duty pistol with 4.49” barrel and the Glock 19 mid-sized handgun with 4.00” barrel. Both of these have been mainstays in Glock’s lineup since day one.
Now Glock is combining the Glock 17 and Glock 19 into the Glock 45. The G45 is a crossover that uses the 4.00” barrel and slide from the Glock 19 and sets it on top of the longer Glock 17 frame. The G47 slide is cut for Glock’s MOS (modular optics system) optics mounting plates. The MOS adapter plates mount between the slide and optic and are available for most common dot optics. Plates are available from Glock as OEM as well as from companies such as CHPWS, Radian Weapons and Forward Controls Design. Part of the appeal to the Glock 47 is the internal parts commonality with the Glock 19 and 45. Why make unique parts for various models when common parts can be used instead? Using as many common parts as possible simplifies the assembly process and streamlines logistics.
The Glock 47 is a recent addition to Glock’s commercial line but has actually been in production for several years. It was originally sold only to certain federal law enforcement agencies; most notably the United States Border Patrol (USBP). The Glock 47 replaces the Heckler and Koch P2000 and USP handguns previously used by USBP. For a long time, the G47 Gen.5 MOS (for Modular Optic System) was only known to die-hard fans of the Austrian premium brand Glock. Like the rotating-barrel Glock G46, it was not offered on the civilian market, but exclusively on the military and law enforcement market. Nothing has changed with the G46 as a police service pistol of the German state of Saxony-Anhalt, but the G47 is now available to civilians. This inevitably raises the question of what could make a Glock G47 Gen5 MOS interesting for civilian users.

The G47 was developed about three years ago following a call for tenders by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Established in 2003, the customs and border protection agency with around 45,000 employees replaced its HK P2000 in .40 S&W with three Glock Gen5 models in 9×19 in 2020: Glock G26, Glock G19 and the now no longer mysterious Glock G47.

In addition to all the typical Gen5 features and the MOS mounting interface for the in-house adapter plates and the mounting of numerous mini red dot sights, the new G47 also has rear and front slide serrations. Between the full-size and compact versions, the CBP was designed to ensure the interchangeability of as many assemblies as possible, presumably to reduce logistics costs.

It therefore has a frame for a 17-round magazine and a barrel length of 114 mm. If you take a closer look, you will recognize the shortened dust cover on the frame, which makes the slide appear visually longer and thus somewhat reminiscent of the G34/G35. However, this is not so much about the look, but rather that the shorter G19 slide can also be used, which is then flush with the dust cover.
This would transform the gun into a crossover variant, as the Glock G45 MOS or G19X have already done. To ensure that the recoil spring is fully covered with the shorter dust cover and the long slide of the G47 MOS, the slide ring was extended to the rear.
This brings us to the second point, parts interchangeability. Now the shorter dual recoil spring of the G19 can be used. Since recoil springs are wear parts and CBP is scattered all over the US, you can understand why there was an emphasis on parts compatibility.

For the private user, the new G47 MOS has the advantage of being able to use a shorter G19 interchangeable slide and barrel kit. However, this is not officially offered by Glock, but you can find dealers online who offer interchangeable kits, including those from numerous third-party retrofitters.

How does the Glock G47 Gen5 MOS perform on the shooting range?
Leupold Delta Point Pro was mounted on the G47. This made the long shooting range visit much easier on the eyes and concentration, and we were also rewarded with small groupings. The G47 was tested in a sitting position at 25 meters using a Caldwell shooting rest with five rounds of each type of ammunition. Of the seven types of ammunition from 115 to 124 grains with training or defensive loads, the best result of 39 mm was achieved by our handload with H&N 115-grain High Speed KSHP bullets.
This was followed by the crisply loaded Hornady 115-grain Critical Defense with 43 mm and the soft GECO 115-grain JHP with 56 mm. The average of all loads was 62 mm. Since the G47 differs only slightly from the classic G17, no differences were to be expected in terms of handling and shooting feel.
