QUALITY CRAFTED INTO EVERY RIFLE
Improved manufacturing processes create tight tolerances, resulting in a reliable, attractive rifle. Multi-layered quality control procedures, including daily function and accuracy audits and multiple inspections, result in a high-quality product.
Marlin Model 1895 Guide Gun, comfortable and rugged
Chambering is the classic .45-70 Govt., with a 19″/485 mm cold hammer-forged barrel (1:20″ twist) that can accommodate a muzzle brake or other barrel accessories thanks to a 11/16″-24 muzzle thread (a match-polished thread protector comes as standard).
Featuring a big loop lever, frame of the Model 1895 Guide Gun is alloy steel. Receiver, lever and trigger guard plate are all CNC machined from alloy steel forgings, and all metal components are glass bead-blasted for a satin finish and blued. Bolt is nickel-plated for smooth cycling and durability. Sights consist in a traditional and fully adjustable semi-buckhorn system.
The brown laminate buttstock ends in a soft rubber buttpad to effectively absorb recoil. The slim forend is also brown laminate, with sharp checkering for an excellent grip in all weather conditions. Safeties include a positive, push-button cross-bolt manual safety and the traditional hammer half-cock.

Marlin 1895 Guide Gun
Ruger adds a beloved classic to the Marlin lever action rifle line.
Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. now owns the Marlin brand of classic lever action rifles, and are now re-introducing the legendary 1895 Marlin Guide Gun or 1895 Marlin GBL (Guide Big Loop) .45-70 Gov’t. lever-action carbine. The 1895 Guide Gun is one of Marlin’s most revered “big bore” lever action designs and is a favorite of those who prefer a powerful but compact backcountry carbine.
“The Guide Gun is our next step in the expansion of the Marlin line,” stated CEO and President, Chris Killoy. “Marlin fans should be encouraged by the growth in product offerings and know that we are going to continuously expand into other models.”
The .45-70 Gov’t, cartridge is an old-school, straight-walled cartridge that dates back to the 19th century. Originally it was loaded with a .45-caliber lead slug weighing 405 grains with a charge of 70 grains of black powder. It made its debut after the American Civil War with the single shot Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor rifles and carbines. Since its inception through today, this cartridge remains a favorite of shooters and hunters and still continues to benefit from modern developments in propellant technology and projectile design.
The new re-introduction model of the Guide Gun has a receiver made of alloy steel with a satin glare-reducing blued classic finish. The flat top receiver is drilled and tapped to facilitate the mounting of optics and like many classic lever guns, the Guide Gun also has adjustable ramp buckhorn semi aperture open sights. The front sight blade has a covered hood to protect it from getting knocked out of alignment as you move around.
Along with a 19-inch barrel with a 1:20-inch rifling twist, this new lever action carbine also has a muzzle with 11/16-inch x 24 tpi threads and comes capped out of the box ready to accept common muzzle accessories. This new carbine has a nickel-plated bolt for a smoother feel when the action is cycled. In addition to this, it was designed to easily feed a wide variety of .45-70 Gov’t. cartridges with varying bullet profile shapes.

Ruger Reintroduces Marlin Model 1895 Guide Gun
The Marlin Model 1895 Guide Gun is back! Ever since Ruger bought the Marlin brand in 2020, fans have been waiting for the return of the Guide Gun series. Ruger has since unveiled a tight catalog of Marlins over the past two years, including the 1895 SBL and the 1895 Trapper — but the model that Marlin fans knew as the 1895 GBL (Guide Big Loop) was not among them; it has now returned as the 1895 Guide Gun.
Ruger says the new 1895 Guide Gun is the “first reintroduction in the Guide Gun family of rifles and Ruger’s first introduction of an allow steel Marlin rifle with a blued finish,” which indicates there will certainly be more to come.
“The Guide Gun is our next step in the expansion of the Marlin line,” said Chris Killoy, Ruger CEO and president, in a release. “Marlin fans should be encouraged by the growth in product offerings and know that we are going to continuously expand into other models.”
This model is chambered in .45-70 Govt. with a capacity of 6+1 rounds. It features a 19-inch cold hammer-forged barrel with a 1:20” twist and a threaded muzzle (11/16”-24). The rifle comes with a match-polished thread protector, so you can run it as is, with a brake or comp to help tame that .45-70 kick or a suppressor.
Much like the 1895 GBL, the furniture on the new Guide Gun is brown laminate with “crisp checkering to help maintain a good grip in virtually all weather conditions.” The steel receiver, big-loop lever, and trigger guard plate all have a blued, satin finish contrasting with a nickel-plated bolt that helps ensure smooth cycling and lasting durability.
On top is a traditional fully adjustable semi-buckhorn sighting system similar to the sights on the Marlin Model 1894, but with a heavily hooded front sight.
It’s a handsome rifle, no doubt, and it adds a welcomed new yet familiar entry to the Marlin lineup, which now features five lever-gun models and three rimfire rifles. .
